Glassboro Fine and Performing Arts Academy

For the 2012-13 school year, students presently in grades 8-11 are eligible to apply for admission to the Fine and Performing Arts Academy at Glassboro High School, through the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program Act of 2010.  The Academy students will attend Glassboro High School, and are provided individual music lessons and Rowan University music classes, all at no cost to the student!  Students accepted to this exciting program will have the opportunity to participate in challenging academic classes and develop their musicianship skills through participation in specialized music classes and ensembles at the high school and at Rowan University through a cooperative dual credit program.  Openings for dozens of Glassboro and out-of-district students will be made available through an audition process in the areas of art, band, strings, choir and dance.

Students accepted to the Academy will be given a specialized fine arts education where academic teachers team up with the music and art departments to offer activities that include college credit music classes, private lessons with university faculty, and participation in both high school and college level ensembles.  Students will take advantage of all honors classes as well as a large offering of Advanced Placement classes at Glassboro High School.  The school’s master course schedule will be built around the Academy schedule and Academy students will get priority scheduling.  Academy students will be able to take advantage of the high quality music courses and ensembles at Glassboro High School, as well as the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Important Note for Students living outside Glassboro:  The first step of the application process is to inform your home district Superintendent, in writing, of your intent to apply to the program.  The deadline for your superintendent to receive this form is November 15, 2011.  If you have interest in the program, please contact Mary Greening as soon as possible to obtain a form to submit to your superintendent.  This does not commit you in any way to enroll in the program, but this is a state deadline that we must follow in the application process.
