Induction Procedures

The National Junior Honor Society of Glassboro Intermediate School has a four phase induction process. Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, the induction process will begin at the end of the third marking period.

Phase I - Grade Point Average
At the end of the third marking period, the advisors begin the process by reviewing each student's Grade Point Average (GPA). Seventh graders will be assessed on the previous three marking periods and eighth graders will be assessed on the previous seven marking periods. All students have an overall average of a 90 or higher will receive a National Junior Honor Society Application.

Phase II - Application
Any student who has an average of a 90 or higher will receive an application for the National Junior Honor Society. Students will be given an established time frame and due date to complete the application. Applications must be returned to the advisors by the established due date. Under no circumstance, applications will not be accepted after the due date.

The application is divided into five parts: Recognition and Awards, Co-Curricular Activities, Leadership, Community Service, and Additional Responsibilities. Each section is to be completed to the best of the student's abilities. All of these parts to each section need to be completed (i.e. - signatures are required as verification for all service activities and community activities).

Phase III - Teacher Rating Scale
Following the application due date, teachers will use a rating scale to assess eligible candidates on four categories: Leadership, Citizenship, Character, and Service. Each of the categories is rated on a one (lowest) to four (highest) score. An average of each of these four categories for each of the teachers who rated that specific student is then averaged together. Each teacher's rating sheet is completely anonymous and private. A student needs an overall average of a 3.50 or higher to advance to Faculty Council.

The overall average is rounded to the nearest hundredth; therefore a rating of a 3.48 is not rounded to a 3.50.

Phase IV - Faculty Council
Candidates who received a 3.50 or higher on the Teacher Rating Scale are finally evaluated by the Faculty Council. The Faculty Council is a team of Glassboro Intermediate School teachers who approve or deny all proposals made by the advisors. The Faculty Council meticulously evaluates each student's application and makes all of the final decisions as to which students will be inducted into the KIP Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.

The decisions made by the Faculty Council regarding induction are final and cannot be appealed.
