Glassboro School District

Dear High School Parent or Guardian,

In just a few days, Glassboro High School will once again open its doors to welcome 650 students back to school.  I am delighted to know that yours will be among them.

On behalf of all the Glassboro High School employees, I want to extend a warm welcome back to our school.  Parents are an important part of our school community and contribute mightily to our success.

I am proud to say that at Glassboro High School, I lead a staff – teachers, aides, counselors, bus drivers, secretaries, food service and maintenance workers – that is second to none.  As a team we work every day to create a supportive, disciplined school environment.  We take pride in being a safe, disciplined school and in the way we prepare our students for the future.  Our mission is to ensure that every graduate has the skills needed to succeed at a good job or a good college.

My “philosophy of good discipline”  is providing the support students need and then setting the highest standards possible.  By expecting the best from our students today, we help them succeed tomorrow.

We have used the summer months to make some exciting changes here at Glassboro High School specifically in the area of technology.  As a parent you will be introduced to our new data managements system Power School which is one used by many schools in the state of New Jersey.  Please ensure that you update all of the demographic information once you receive the Back to School packet in August.  Students will be able to pick up their packet including schedules after August 14.  Freshmen schedules and packets will be mailed out this coming weekend.
We will also be utilizing a new central messaging cystem called School Messenger.  This will allow you to make decisions as to where you want important school messages.  We can send you important announcements via phone, email or text.  You can also decide what kinds of messages you would like to receive.  There will be more information forthcoming from the district.  But, it is very imperative we have up to date emails and telephone numbers to contact you.
Test data and data driven decision making is very important and because of that we have moved from utilizing the S-test to MAP.  This test is a measurement of Academic Progress which presents students with engaging, age-appropriate content.  As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, adjusting up or down in difficulty.  The result is a rewarding experience for the student, and a wealth of detailed information for teachers, parents, and administrators.

Finally, please know that my door is always open, and you are always welcome to visit.  I appreciate hearing from parents, and I hope I can count on you to share your concerns, ideas, and feedback.  I invite you to stop in even before school opens.  I would love to meet you.  We will be busy setting up, and we might even have a job for those willing to volunteer!

I hope you enjoy the last days of summer.  In addition to making sure that everything is ready for your child at 7:40 a.m. on September 2, the first day of school, I will be finishing up Hunger Games, enjoying spending time with my family in my hometown in Sicily.

Thanks for taking the time to read this letter and allowing me the opportunity to educate your most prized possession.  I hope this is the beginning of year-long dialogue, and I look forward to a successful 2010-11school year!

Sincerely,

Santina S. Haldeman, Principal
